One of the most moving stops on a bus tour is the Vendome Memorial at Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street. The monument pays tribute to the 9 fire fighters who perished in the collapse of the Hotel Vendome on July 17, 1972. A bronze fire helmet and coat rests atop a simple granite wall which is inscribed with information about the men who lost their lives.
